Spring Slayer

They say the best ones never stop practicing their craft and Doke confirmed that theory Friday evening as he pulled in a 3 1/2 pound bass, a 24 inch walleye, and a small pike to boot on Lake Orion.
They also say the not so good ones (i.e., me) practice occasionally and hope for the best. That is why while Doke and his fishing mate were taking care of business on the water, I was getting my sports fix at the Palace watching the Pistons get their fanny kicked by the Heat.
I will definitely get my share of practice a week from today as six of us are headed to one of the fishing hotbeds in the U.S., Kentucky Lake, for a week of fishing, fishing, and more fishing. If Doke will share some of his fishing expertise, I expect nothing less than a banner week of lips being ripped.

Badwater Convention

in search of the elusive legal fish at Dunham
Ernie Harwell used to quote the following at the beginning of spring training each year, "For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land." I have no idea who this magical turtle is that is talking but as with baseball, spring means fishing and the members of the Badwater Bass Club got together this weekend to celebrate what looks to be another great fishing season.
I hope my luck on the water, however, is better than it was playing cards and in the raffles at the gathering. It was not to be for me.
A gold star to the Badwater executive board for getting everything in order for the season. The new gear is pretty tough looking. The hats are even big head friendly, which, for a person like yours truly who has a big cranium, it is a welcome sight.
Fish on!

Wolverine Lake - flashback to the 90's!

It was a trip down memory lane today as the scene was Wolverine Lake, my home from '94-96. Quite a posh estate, eh? Those were the salad days I guess you could say. The rent was cheap and I was on the water; what else could you ask for? My best memory of the time there was walking out one evening and watching my neighbor get handcuffed by the state police for an out-of-state arrest warrant. I knew there was a reason his wife had the shakes while she puffed on her smokes. Good times!
While there were no fish to be had today, I did pull some pictures from the Wolverine Lake archives to show proof that this lake has some production. That is a pretty sweet hair lip on yours truly, huh?  Yeah, I don't recall having any luck with the ladies during that time either. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Mountain bike season is near!
