Operation deck removal (or back pull)

The winter/spring mission is to remove the front porch and back deck and replace both once Mother Nature allows.

Today was Stage 1 of the back deck removal as for better or worse, the base of the deck was constructed quite solidly. I got the worse of it today as removing the base was a bear and will not be completed in one day. My old back got through about a third of it but had to call it a day at that unless I want to do the Fred Sanford walk for a week. No thanks.

Super Bowl Sunday tradition - no ice to fish on

I had all intentions of doing the annual Super Bowl Sunday ice fish on some local lake but went out last Tuesday morning, drilled a few holes and four inches of ice doesn't give me the comfort factor so went with Plan B this morning, a float down the Platte River. I was hoping to stumble upon a salmon who deviated from the masses doing the upstream climb in the fall but no fish seen. No kayak tip-overs to report either; that was priority number one. There is a short clip of the float at the bottom of this note.
