Badwater Bass Club - Session VI - 13 3/4"

Thirteen and three-quarter inches. That was the theme of the day yesterday morning on Lakeville Lake for the sixth session of the Badwater tour. The ruler below says it all. If there was a contest for bass that are a quarter inch short, Doke would have taken the title. Each time the net came up and each time I would go "ehhhhhhhh" (as in "not enough") time and time again. That was a minor complaint, however, as the 14-15-16 inchers finally did show themselves. Four anglers maxed out with.....surprise, surprise, the Vaden connection again taking the victory. The overcast skies were a blessing (never rained) as it kept the jet skis to a minimum so we had a real fishing tournament feel out there.

Trail Stories - Holly Recreation Area - Tale Of Two Trucks

The story of the two trucks below takes us to Holly, Michigan, specially Holdridge Lakes within Holly Recreation Area last Friday. The intent of said trip was a mountain bike loop on Gruber's Grinder, one of the nut breaking rides in the area.
So, the ride ends and I'm collecting my thoughts in the parking lot enjoying a cold beverage. I look to my left and see the wolf eye truck. I didn't see the owner but based on the A-1 job on the back window and the immaculate condition of the car, I would put money they wash (and vacuum) it daily. The compulsive car cleaner! I have a person at my bus stop just like this. She does a 20 point inspection of her vehicle each morning while waiting for the bus. EVERY SINGLE MORNING! And if they find a nick, the day is ruined! It is compulsive with a splash of passion I guess you could say. Yeah....no.
Instead of compulsive clean, our second truck below would be the compulsive slacker. The guy in the truck wasn't even biking; just out for a nice dirt road ride in the company truck on company time. It had to have been company gas as well as I wouldn't be leaving my engine running for 30 minutes if it were on my tab. If you look close at the picture, it says "Not For Hire." I wouldn't be hiring you anyway there fella.

Brighton Recreation Area - Yep, Weather

Mark C.

My least favorite work discussion topic is weather (followed by traffic) but Holy Kalkaska is it a hot one out there! After the pedal tonight at Brighton Recreation Area, it was necessary to utilize Bishop Lake for some dirt release. I know beggars can't be choosers but the water was like a warm bath. A warm bath is nice in January, but not in July. I needed a Lake Superior-type of cold. It was not to be. No complaints though as I enjoyed the pedal and didn't have to talk about weather or traffic.

Badwater Bass Club - Session V - Vaden Voodoo Still Strong

Whoever taught the Vaden boys how to fish did a good job as the younger one brought in a 10 pound bag to the weigh-in Friday night on Lake Orion. Based on his production so far, I was expecting to write in this entry that the elder Vaden had clinched the Angler of the Year award but it might come down to the final session on the Detroit River before that is determined. Yours truly is fishing for pride (and prize money) at this stage of the season. All is not lost though. Did I mention I was fishing?
Rather than the standard fisherman with fish in front of them picture, I've been encouraging the Badwater members to get creative with their fish presentations. Nice Bass-bow there by Doke.

Slowest 10 Miles - Record

big head emerging from the woods
Mark and I managed to beat the record for the longest loop ever tonight at Island Lake. "On your left" was the phrase most heard on the ride. We never stopped, however, the pace was more of a turtle nature. You know what though, Jimmy crack corn and I don't care as it was a great evening for a pedal and I was in no hurry to miss the forest visual.
We also had a Redskin sighting tonight as avid biker Shawn L. from the class of '84 was doing a loop. I thought I was a bike fanatic but Shawn is on another level so...pedal on Shawn!

Fish On.....Balloon On!!!

So there we were on a calm Wednesday evening on Dunham Lake, catching enough fish to keep the interest going. Then off to the south came the hot air balloon sound. A minute later, up over the trees comes a balloon and down onto the water it went. It touched, hovered, and off to the north it went.
A nice start to the holiday weekend!
